Chapter 15

Amelia stretched in her bed. She frowned at the dull ache in her thighs before remembering what she had done with Jack last night. She glanced behind her. The bed was empty and she sat straight up, her heartbeat quickening with panic before she heard water running in the bathroom.

With a soft sigh of relief she collapsed back on the bed. She glanced at the alarm clock. It was just after six and she realized that, for the time in years, there had been no dreams of Richard haunting her sleep last night. She stared up at the ceiling and a small smile crossed her lips. Last night had been wonderful.

“No, not wonderful.” She whispered out loud. “It was amazing, unbelievable, the best night of my – “

At the sound of her voice, Lupe gave a soft woof and leaped on to the bed.

“Lupe, down!” She giggled as he licked at her arms and face. She pushed him to the empty side of the bed and he lay down next to her, resting his large head on her abdomen. She ran her fingers through the thick scruff of his fur, feeling that lovely blue warmth radiating from him and into her, and scratched behind his ears.

“You is such a good baby.” She said in an annoyingly high voice. “Amelia loves her Lupe, yes she does. Who’s the biggest, fuzziest lapdog in the whole wide world? Is it you?”

“Until he met you, no one would have described him as a lapdog.” Jack spoke wryly from the bathroom door.

She smiled shyly at him, her fingers tightening a little in Lupe’s soft fur. “Good morning.”

He approached the bed, clicking his fingers at Lupe who jumped down obediently. He sat down on the bed beside her and rested his hand on her abdomen. “How do you feel?”

“Good.” She smiled at him.

“Sore?”

She shrugged. “A little bit. Not bad though.”

He frowned and pulled the bed covers back. Before she could even try and hide her nakedness he had scooped her up and was carrying her to the bathroom.

“Jack, what are you doing?”

“I ran you a bath.” He replied.

“Thank you.” She smiled at him as he bent over the steaming tub and carefully deposited her into the water.

She hissed a little as the hot water flowed between her legs and Jack frowned. “Is it too hot?”

She shook her head. “No. It’s good, really.”

He nodded and stepped back as she sunk down to her chin in the hot water. She smiled timidly at him. “Why don’t you join me?”

“The tub isn’t big enough for both of us.”

“I can move over.” She smiled again at him. “It’ll be cozy.”

He shook his head again, his face solemn. “I don’t think that’s a good idea Amelia.”

Her heart dropped to her stomach. Jack was giving her a strange look and he was being so cool with her. Was he regretting last night? She had thought he enjoyed last night as much as she did but now she wasn’t so sure.

He’s probably regretting that he allowed himself to be sucked in by your pathetic begging.
